Awesome Hacks to Boost Kids Love for Blueberries

Blueberry benefits are no secret, but that doesn’t always work as an argument to get kids to eat ‘em!

So if it’s not the benefits of blueberries for kids that sparks their interest, what can be done? Here are our top helpful hacks for inspiring kids to munch on this magical berry!

1. Embrace Berry Versatility

Mix up how you serve blueberries to kids to help them find a way (or ways) that they love eating them. Blueberries make a great addition to morning cereal, oatmeal, and of course on top of pancakes. Want more kid-friendly blueberry recipes? They can also be blended in smoothies, mixed into cream cheese, or crushed into muffin batter for flavor and color! Dried blueberries are also great in trail mix or salads. And frozen blueberries are a refreshing summer treat. Lastly, you can cook them on the stove to make blueberry jelly or jam.

2. Make Blueberries a Familiar Fruit

Get kids familiar with blueberries by letting them explore the fruit. You can try our Blueberry Smash & Paint Project or simply have children examine blueberries and talk about their observations. Kids can note their blue color, small size, and juiciness. You can explain that some blueberries taste sour but most taste sweet. Encourage kids in a game-like manner to taste a few blueberries and see if they can tell the difference. Make the benefits of blueberries for kids familiar to them too. While saying “these are good for you” may not do the trick, sitting kids down and explaining blueberry benefits specifically for their bodies, such as “there are antioxidants that help fight germs and make you smarter,” may help them understand and listen.

3. Bake Together with Blueberries

Get kids hands-on in using blueberries in their food, especially in fun baked goods. There are so many kid-friendly blueberry recipes to try from muffins to cobbler to summer crumble. By giving kids the chance to work with berries themselves and turn them into something extra delicious, it will help make them more open to blueberries in general, and likely other foods they once were skeptical of too!

Your kids may not love blueberries yet, but follow these tips and you can be "berry" convincing about why they should!
