Make Reading with Kids a Personal Adventure

Join in the celebration of National Reading Month next month and Read Across America Day on March 2nd by reading with kids in your family to teach little ones about all the difference books can make in their lives. Get started with these fun ideas below! Read Across America Day has been celebrated by the National Education Association since 1998 with fun activities to get students and kids excited about reading every year. This year’s unique theme and educational programs are focused on celebrating a nation of diverse readers. Try these fun activities to teach the children in your life that no matter who you are, what you look like, or what your interests are, reading is something everyone can enjoy! First, it's a great idea to teach children to explore subjects and ideas that relate to their unique interests. Whether your kids enjoy books about sports, science, family, animals, or far-away lands, help them find their passion for reading with one of these fun ideas: A Trip To The Local Library
  • Go to your local library and explore books on a topic your kid is interested in. Inform them that they can find different kinds of books on the topic of their choice from children’s literature to nonfiction resources for older kids and teens. This is a fun and hands-on way to help children create a personal relationship with reading.
  Use Read-Aloud Books
  • You can also support students' personal relationship with reading by searching for books read aloud on tape or YouTube related to the topic your child wants to explore. Read-aloud books can be a great resource for homeschooling programs and make educational lessons more interesting. Since March 2nd is also Dr. Seuss’ birthday, children may want to hear these fun stories read aloud. Help your child find a video of their favorite silly Seuss book or check out this video featuring a child reading through 4 classic Dr. Seuss stories.
  Write A Story
  • Depending on children's ages, you can have them even write their own stories. Together, you can write a book about the topic of your child’s choice. You can do research on different concepts by looking through other books with kids or searching the internet. This is another fun idea for homeschooling lessons and parents who homeschool. Once the story is written, have your child read it aloud to you or call up a family member and read it over the phone to build their skills. For a younger kid or toddlers, consider putting on a puppet show. Your puppet show can feature characters you create together through imaginative play and storytelling. This is a hands-on way to introduce your child to the arts.

Frequently asked questions

What comes in a Baketivity baking kit?

Each Baketivity baking kit includes pre-measured dry ingredients, easy step-by-step instructions, and fun educational activities designed for kids. Our recipes are created to help children learn real kitchen skills while baking something delicious with their family.

Do I need to buy additional ingredients?

You may only need to add a few fresh ingredients like eggs, butter, or milk, depending on the recipe. Most of the dry ingredients come pre-measured in the kit, making baking simple, convenient, and mess-free for kids.

What equipment do I need to use the baking kits?

Most families already have everything they need at home. Typically you'll need mixing bowls, a whisk, fork or spoon, measuring cups, and a lined baking pan. Some recipes may also require a microwave-safe bowl or oven.

What age are Baketivity baking kits best for?

Baketivity baking kits are designed for kids ages 4–16. Younger children may need a little help from a parent, while older kids can follow the instructions more independently and build confidence in the kitchen.

Do your baking kits contain nuts?

Nuts are not directly included in the recipes or ingredient lists. However, some components may be produced in facilities that also process nuts, sesame seeds, soy, and gluten, so trace amounts may be present.

Are Baketivity baking kits kosher?

Yes! All ingredients included in Baketivity baking kits are OU-certified kosher, and our facility is FDA-approved, so families can bake and enjoy their treats with confidence.

My ingredients feel hard or clumpy. Is that normal?

Yes! Our ingredients are vacuum-packed to keep them fresh, which can sometimes make them feel firm or clumpy. Simply open the bag and give it a shake, and the ingredients will loosen up and be ready to use.
