- 1 1/2 lbs string beans
- 4 Tbsp. butter
- 1 Tbsp. flour
- 1 large onion
- 1/2 cup chicken or veggie broth
- 1 Tbsp. honey
- 1 garlic clove
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- Peel the onion, and cut it into thin half-ring slices.
- Add the butter to a large pan and heat over medium heat.
- Add the onion slices to the pan, and sauté over medium-low heat.
- Allow the onion to cook low and slow for about an hour.
- Stir the onions every few minutes.
- While sautéing, you can add 1 Tbsp. of water 2-3 times to speed up the process.
- Once the onions are completely soft and golden, add in the spices, garlic, and honey.
- Add the flour to the pan, and mix vigorously until fully incorporated.
- Pour the broth and stir until well combined with the flour.
- Place the string beans in the pan and raise the heat to medium-high.
- Cook the string beans for about ten minutes. They should still have a slight crunch when eating.
