St. Patrick’s Day activities for the whole family!

Your guide to a fun St. Patrick’s Day for the kids and adults!

When do clovers, rainbows and green beer come together? Yup, St. Patrick's Day is almost here again and boy, is it welcome! Gather your family ‘round the table for some wholesome, family-made fun that will please the kids and the adults at the same time.

Let’s dive in!

  1. Green Candy Guessing Game

In the morning of St. Patrick's Day, fill a clear mason jar with green candy all the way to the top. Place it in a visible spot in the house, where everyone can see it and pass it multiple times throughout the day. Everyone will have to take a guess at how many candies are in the jar. They can pick up the jar, shake it, turn it upside down- but no opening! At night, everyone should write down on a slip of paper their name and the number of candies they think there are in the jar. Collect all papers, read the numbers aloud and then start counting the candies. The person with the closest guess wins the candy!

  1. Celebrate like an Irish person

Time to put on the garb (figuratively) of an Irish person! Celebrate St. Patrick's the authentic Irish way.

  • Make some Irish coffee

Ooh! Who can say no to this one?!

  1. Preheat a mug by filling with hot water and then emptying it.

  2. Pour a freshly brewed hot coffee into the glass, until it’s ¾ full.

  3. Add 1 tbsp brown sugar, stir until it’s dissolved.

  4. Blend in 1 and a ½ ounces (or 3 tablespoons) of Irish Whiskey.

  5. Top with whipped cream or, even better, a scoop of ice cream.

  • Bake Irish Soda Bread

Nothing says “eat me” as strongly as fresh Irish soda bread. Go ahead and make the most delicious version of it yet. The best part is that this recipe doesn’t require any yeast! Go ahead and see the full recipe + video here.

  • Watch an Irish movie

Cozy up with your family and watch an Irish movie, or one that has Irish actors.

  • Watch Irish Step Dancers

Pull up the best videos from Irish Step Dancers and be awed by their talent. Even better, have a dancing party with everyone learning an Irish Step Dance.

3. Watch a virtual St. Patrick’s Day Parade

If it’s safe where you live, then go watch a real St. Patrick’s Day Parade. But if it’s not safe to do so in your area, then trust Google to find you the coolest virtual parade to watch with your family.

4. It’s Green Food Time!

We can’t mention St. Patrick’s Day without talking about green food. Here goes my top 3 green foods:

  • Cupcakes with green frosting

Whip out the mixer and whip up some easy-peasy cupcakes. Decorate the top with green frosting, sprinkles, or whichever other decoration you’d like!

  • Bake St. Patrick themed cookies

This Baketivity kit allows you to bake cookies with the images you choose! Upload your favorite St. Patrick’s pictures when you order the Face Bake kit and watch your child’s face light up. The edible stickers are the perfect decoration on these cookies!

Another option is to bake sugar cookies and to have fun decorating them with green icing!

  • Clover Rice Krispies Bar

Pull out your easiest, tastiest Rice Krispies recipe and then decorate it with a St. Patrick look! If you have a clover shaped cookie cutter, then feel free to use it with your Rice Krispies too!

5. Costume party

Time to dress up! Give everyone 15 minutes to find the most bizarre, funny green (or St. Patrick’s Day related) costumes. At the end of the 15 minutes, everyone has to meet back at the starting point and vote for the best costume.

6. Craft me pretty

Create St. Patrick’s Day crafts with your kids and watch their creativity blossom (pun intended : )

  • Four-Leaf Clover Decor

You’ll need:

  • Light green, dark green and white tissue paper
  • Hard white paper
  • Runny glue
  • Hole puncher
  • Ribbon

Instructions:

  1. Cut out a clover shape from the hard white paper.

  2. Tear the tissue paper into small pieces. Glue the pieces onto the clover shape (on one side).

  3. Punch a hole on the top of the clover and thread a ribbon through it. (Another option is to put a piece of magnet behind the clover and hang it from the fridge.)

  4. Hang and enjoy!

  • Fruit Loop Rainbow

This rainbow craft is easy to make and oh, so colorful!

You’ll need:

  • Fruit Loops
  • Corn Syrup
  • Hard paper (any color)
  • Optional: mini marshmallows and gold chocolate coins

Instructions:

  1. Have your child divide up a cupful of Fruit Loops by color.

  2. Create your rainbow by sticking one color of the rainbow onto the paper, with corn syrup, in an arc shape. Continue doing this with all colors.

  3. Optional: Stick some mini marshmallows near one end of the rainbow, and stick the chocolate coins near the other end.

7. Plan a Scavenger Hunt

This is an extra-fun activity that can be enjoyed by everyone- especially if there’s a pot of gold by the end of the hunt! Set up a scavenger hunt around the house, with riddles leading to the next “stop” in the house. At the final stop, prepare a pot of gold of delicious chocolate coins!
