Virtual Baking Summer Camp

Most of our normal life activities have had to change, thanks to the global COVID-19 pandemic and its effects. Because of reduced movements and shelter-in-place orders in many states, the would-be summer camp programs have been canceled or moved online. Cue in the virtual summer camp – a chance for parents to still keep children engaged during this extended quarantine. Just like virtual schools, online camps provide children the opportunity to learn important skills they would pick up from camps. And as a bonus, parents have a chance to keep children out of trouble – extended, unproductive screen time mostly – for much of the day.As a parent, the struggle of finding ways to keep active children occupied and curb that summer boredom is very real. But you can handle it with baking camp. Cooking classes in general, particularly baking classes, are excellent ways to occupy your child’s time during the summer holiday. There are numerous benefits of learning baking in early childhood and even after. Some of them include:
  • Baking is a science and it gives an opportunity to improve children’s STEM understanding
  • Following recipes improves reading, comprehension and other cognitive development
  • Ask-and-answer and following instructions improve communication
  • Children learn nutrition, making healthy choices, and expanding their palette
  • Teaches responsibility and boosts self-worth and sense of confidence
  • Encourages teamwork to achieve a goal
  • Develops children’s fine motor skills, bilateral coordination, and hand-eye coordination
  • Exposes children to different recipes and potentially different cultures
  • Provides an opportunity for family bonding
  • Baking is a practical way to apply many skills learned in school
You can enroll children as young as six years into a baking summer camp, and you’ll see just how much fun they will have as they learn together with children from other parts of the country. Baking is an important life skill that kids should start learning as early as possible. The children can learn how to take care of themselves, as well as understanding the basis for many eating choices they will make even into adulthood.Baketivity is hosting a four-week or eight-week long 2021 Bake-A-Camp for kids, giving children a chance to boost their baking skills and spend the summer gainfully improving their kitchen skills. The camp promises to provide family-friendly bonding time by allowing participants to access the immersive online baking classes that come with baking kits. For every month (whether you're signing up for July and/or August), participants will get four themed Baketivity baking sets, just like our regular baking kits, featuring exclusive recipes that are never-before-seen in our baking kits. For every kit, coming once a week, you can expect your little chef to gain more kitchen techniques and improve their hands-on experience with kitchen tools as well as baking prowess. The baking summer camp boxes come with more than 25 hours of activities that include:
  • Hands-on, illustrated and easy-to-understand, step by step instructions and recipes
  • Additional baking tips for perfect baking products each time
  • Easy to read, colorful manuals to give delicious treats
  • 4 individual baking kits that include pre-measured dry ingredients – made from high-quality foodstuffs and heat-sealed to preserve freshness
  • A complete shopping list for the wet/perishable ingredients and baking tools needed
  • A child-friendly activity book for kids to use during and even after the virtual sessions
The kits are assembled with carefully chosen recipes that can be made by children as young as grade school (5-6 years, with adult supervision/assistance). We provide mix and stir recipes that accommodate growing children’s abilities and aptitudes to ensure that much of the work will be done by the kids themselves. Bake-a-Camp will be having live classes weekly, to make the kit and discuss the theme of the kit, together. Each week’s recipe is tailored to build on the skills the child learned the previous week. To help the child even further, parents can include children when baking for the family during the week, allowing the child to practice any new skill they pick up. Every week will have a progressively advancing recipe as they explore different countries around the world. By the end, your child will have picked up many of the skills pro bakers have, and they get to try them out practically by baking delicious treats. They'll also have gained knowledge about different cultures around the world. For every recipe, the children have a chance to learn outside the classroom, thanks to the provided tips, tricks, and how-to’s that will help them understand why certain things happen when baking. You stand to not only improve their Math and reading skills – older children will appreciate watching their science lessons come to life! The skill-based recipes will show children how to master a new skill step by step. Illustrated guides are great for older children who are baking on their own, while younger children will be able to interpret what they’re reading with illustrations. There’s simply no downside to registering your child for the online Bake-a-Camp!Every week, the Bake-a-Camp virtual camp will focus on one baking skill by teaching the steps to make one treat. The participants will have the opportunity to cook those dishes from start to finish. Baketivity baking kits are ideal for children from 3-12 years of age. Younger children will need adult supervision, but tweens (9-12) years can handle most of the baking activities on their own. However, the Baketivity virtual camp assumes full adult participation/supervision. Please assess how much adult supervision your child needs based on their age and kitchen experience. You can assess such things as knife skills, to know how much of your help they need. Even if you’re not participating, staying close to the child during the cooking process to give guidance and encouragement will be helpful for bonding. You can also take the opportunity to encourage fun learning by reinforcing some of the lessons from school (math skills, reading, etc.) Take time to go through the recipes yourself, and then with your child (ren) so that you’re well prepared for the class. Finally, remember that you’ll need to buy your wet ingredients, tools, and accessories. Things like whipped cream, eggs, oil, fresh fruit, and parchment paper may not be included in the kits. However, everything needed for the session will be listed in the comprehensive shopping list that comes with the kit. If you will register more than one child, remember to order a kit for each child – talk to us about getting a discount for the second child. You can also call if you have any trouble with the class or if you have any other questions. If you’re looking for a creative way to engage your children during the summer break, consider registering them for the baking camp. There are plenty of benefits, including the opportunity for you to take a break from active teaching and supervision by engaging in a fun activity. Getting a regular Baketivity subscription can help you to build on the skills your child acquires after the camp. Allow your little one to experiment with different recipes to wholesomely improve their baking prowess. Join us in creating a generation of kitchen-savvy children with our fun kitchen activities. In the end, be prepared to crown your Master Chef with their very own Baker’s Hat and Apron: they will have definitely earned it!
